The House of Spirits by Isabel Allende

Incredible story, beautifully written. I will post the review sometime this week. Eager to read more Allende now.

Cranford & Other Stories by Elizabeth C. Gaskell

I loved North and South as well as Wives and Daughters so I have high expectations for this one. So far, I’m greatly enjoying the interweaving stories of different Cranford residents, all rather quirky and adorable, especially Miss Matty. I may have seen an episode or two from the BBC adaptation a few years ago and I thought it was amazing, so once I finish with the book I’ll try to get the dvds for a proper viewing.

The Crimson Petal and the White by Michael Faber

Picked this up at the book market under Waterloo bridge for £2. Don’t really know much about it but I have a feeling it will be an interesting read. Have you read it or anything by this author? I would love to hear what you thought.

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro

Absolutely love this book. I was very excited to watch the film as well but apparently the movie won’t be released in the UK until January. Boo.

Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel

A tad gory, at least in the beginning, and slow-paced in places, but I’ll try to stick with it because I’ve heard really good things about this one.

Cranford and Other Stories by Elizabeth Gaskell

I found this one in one of my local charity shops, a bargain for £1! I loved North and South as well as Wives and Daughters by Gaskell so I hope this one will be equally enjoyable.

Another week, another list…

Last book finished:

Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason by Helen Fielding

God, I love Bridget! This one was longer than the first, and at some points I didn’t care much for it, but Bridget still has all the ridiculous obsessions and neurotic behaviours you’d expect, and of course she gets a happy ending.

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro

I’m about a hundred pages in and I seem to have forgotten a lot of the details of this book so it’s almost like I’m reading it for the first time, which is great.

Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel

Next on the TBR list:

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Horse and his Boy by C. S. Lewis

I love this edition. I got it at a charity shop for 99p (yay) and it has the first three stories of the chronicles. It has a lot of notes in the margins which should make for an interesting reading experience.

What do you think about second-hand books?

Bridget Jones’s Diary by Helen Fielding

Even though I’ve seen the movie more times than I can remember, I had never read the book before. Loved it!

Bridget Jones’s Diary: The Edge of Reason by Helen Fielding

I’m halfway in and it may not be as enjoyable as the first book, but it’s still really, really good.

Next on the TBR pile:

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro

This is a reread in preparation for the release of the movie. The trailer below looks really good and I’m excited!

Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel

Everyone probably read this a year ago but I’m only getting to it now.

So what have you been reading? What are you planning on reading next?

PS Cannot guarantee that my reading this week will be P.G. Wodehouse free. I miss Bertie Wooster.
